The fun style compliments a Zelda-inspired adventure.
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a top down Zelda adventure, with 2013’s A Link Between Worlds being the last. A remake of Link’s Awakening later this year will help that drought, but there’s also another game that’s aiming to do that- Baldo. The game was recently announced and wears the Zelda influence on its sleeve, combining several aspects of the beloved series in one package.
You can see the gameplay trailer, provided by IGN, below. The influence is pretty obvious, but what’s interesting is how it mixes parts of the Zelda formula. While the game has a top down view, it combines it with the cel-shading of Wind Waker, a game that was divisive on release due to its art style but later became beloved for its uniqueness. You see bits and pieces of puzzles, settings, combat, and the charming characters you will run into on your adventure.
Baldo will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. The trailer and announcement didn’t come with many details, so it’s unclear if this will be a digital-only title or a full retail release.
