Baldur’s Gate 3 has been nothing short of a revelation, and in the days following its release earlier this month, Larian Studios’ widely acclaimed RPG has enjoyed unprecedented success on all fronts.

For instance, it’s now become the best-reviewed game of all time on OpenCritic. It has a score of 97 out of 100 on the review aggregator platform, making it only one of two games to have that score, the other being Super Mario Odyssey (which is ranked No. 2).

Baldur’s Gate 3 has a score of 97 on Metacritic as well, and is currently 2023’s highest-rated game on the website, having overtaken The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (which has a score of 96). Over the weekend, Baldur’s Gate 3 also hit a concurrent user count peak of over 875,000 players on Steam, as per SteamDB, which is the ninth-highest peak concurrent count ever achieved by a game on Steam.

It is, of course, worth keeping in mind that the game has only received a portion of the reviews it’s supposed to receive from outlets, with 42 reviews currently registered on OpenCritic, and 26 on Metacritic. In comparison, Super Mario Odyssey has 157 reviews on OpenCritic, while The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has 145 reviews on Metacritic.

In our review of Baldur’s Gate 3, we awarded it a score of 10/10, saying, “Like Divinity: Original Sin 2, Baldur’s Gate 3 redefines what a role-playing game can offer in character-building, combat, story-telling and choice. It’s a compelling experience that simply shouldn’t be missed.” Read the full review through here.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available currently on PC. A PS5 version launches on September 6, and Larian has confirmed it will launch with all the fixes that will have been released for the PC version up to that point. An Xbox Series X/S version is also in the works, but is unlikely to launch before next year.
