DICE’s Battlefield 1 will present weekly challenges in an interesting way. Deemed Medals, there will be five to earn per week and have “specific unlock criteria”.
As DICE explains, “Battlefield veterans will notice some changes in how the commemorations work this time around. Each Medal still has a specific unlock criteria. In Battlefield 1 you have the freedom to choose which medals to pursue.”
New challenges will be introduced every seven days and you can choose to keep track of one throughout. And yes, it’s possible to switch between modes and classes for other Medals while retaining progress.
“This goes hand in hand with the philosophy of choice in Battlefield 1. To find something that caters to your play style at any given moment, you are free to choose which Medal you’re currently most interested in tracking. You can only track one Medal at the time, but if you change game mode or role you can switch focus and go for another Medal. Your progression will be kept as long as the weekly reset hasn’t happened yet.”
Earning a Medal means going through three to five phases of a challenge, each stage becoming harder as you progress. For example, the Order of Hippocrates Medal for the Medic which involves getting 20 kills, healing teammates 100 times and reviving 20 times. By comparison, the Legion of Glory Medal sees you playing different classes and earning a certain number of heals, repairs and whatnot. There will be 34 different Medals, each obtainable 100 times, and each scores you an XP bonus.
Battlefield 1 will be out on October 21st for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
