It has been rumored for a while that the next entry in the Battlefield series will be called Battlefield 5. There have also been rumors that the next entry in the series would feature a World War 2 setting. This is in line with the latest report by VentureBeat regarding Battlefield 5 and if you need any more proof, they have also released a development screenshot to go along with their report.
With Call of Duty also having recently featured a World War 2 setting, it may appear like the Battlefield series is following in the former’s footsteps. According to VentureBeat however, EA and DICE had decided on this strategy years ago. The internal code name for this project was Battlefield 2 but its final retail name will be Battlefield 5.
The studio had always planned to follow up with a World War 2 title if Battlefield 1 became successful. Battlefield 1 was of course highly successful, having more than 25 million players as of December 2017. Hopefully, Battlefield V will be able to live up to fans’ high expectations for the next entry in this series.
Keep in mind that this is still a rumor so take it with a grain of salt but given this is coming from Venturebeat, we are pretty sure that this is where the next Battlefield is heading. You can check out the leaked screenshot below.
