Battlefield 6 Lead Producer Agrees to More “Large Sandbox Maps,” Addresses Blackwell Fields Hate

"There are different types of Battlefield maps in all games," said DICE's David Sirland, regarding criticism against the same.

Battlefield 6 Season 1

Since before launch, Battlefield 6 players have complained about the map sizes in multiplayer, which include frighteningly extensive studies on how they rank against others in the franchise. Following criticism against Battlefield: RedSec for incorporating the same and praising user-made creations in Portal, lead producer David Sirland has come forth to agree. “We need more of the large sandbox types for sure!”

While responding to a user who called maps “small, too linear, and often have terrible sight lines,” Sirland disagreed that this was true for all maps. “There are different types of Battlefield maps in all games,” he added. However, he acknowledged that some of the complaints surrounding Blackwell Fields, recently added in Season 1, are valid.

Many complaints center around the layout, the lack of cover and how easy it is to camp vehicles from even leaving their base. Sirland acknowledged that it’s “an issue with that map for sure, and the tightness of the flight space.” Whether anything is being done to fix it remains to be seen, so we’ll need to wait for more updates.

However, DICE and the rest of Battlefield Studios are keeping busy in other ways. It recently outlined an extensive update to streamline challenges and assignments, reducing the annoying requirements that dogged many of them. Downloadable and server-side updates are still incoming, which should further improve things.

The next Season 1 map, Eastwood, goes live on November 18th alongside a new mode, Sabotage. You can also look forward to the return of Battle Pickups, two new weapons (the DB-12 and M357 Trait), and the Troy Angled attachment.
