Battlefield 6 Update Tones Down Excessively Green Outfit to Positive Response: “They’re Listening!”

System Override, an alternate outfit for the Assault Class, looks darker and sleeker compared to its previously bright tones.

Battlefield 6 - System Override

One of the selling points for Battlefield 6 was the promise of more realistic, grounded skins, to the extent that it parodied Call of Duty’s cosmetics in a live-action trailer. To that end, DICE and EA probably can’t blame players too much if they lambast skins like Wicked Grin, an Assault Class skin with shocking blue highlights and a cheesy mask that’s better suited to Fortnite.

Thankfully, the developer is taking that feedback into account and implementing it quickly. Another outfit, System Override, has been toned down from its overtly bright, Monster Energy-esque tones. The result is something darker and sleeker than a NATO soldier may actually wear.

The response on Reddit is about as positive (“They’re listening!”) as it is biting. “DICE when it turns out the change is as simple as toning down the colors,” said Nexusu in a comment. Another user, a5ncz, added sarcastically, “How am I supposed to enrage the kids who threatened to not revive anyone wearing it now?” accompanied by a GIF of Arrested Development’s Tobias weeping in the shower.

Of course, it remains to be seen if DICE will stick to its guns for future cosmetics, especially if there’s money to be made (which publisher Electronic Arts wouldn’t say no to following its acquisition).

Battlefield 6 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It sold over seven million copies in three days, and while player numbers in the US lag behind Call of Duty on consoles, it’s dominating on PC. A free-to-play battle royale title, Battlefield: RedSec, is now live alongside Season 1.
