Recently, at BlizzCon, Blizzard Entertainment revealed big new plans for the long-running MMORPG World of Warcraft with the announcement of The War Within, an upcoming expansion that’s set to be the first part of a trilogy, which has been dubbed the Worldsoul Saga. But one questions regarding the game’s future that has been asked for as long as anyone can remember and still continues to be asked is- is World of Warcraft going to launch for consoles anytime soon?

It’s certainly something Blizzard Entertainment is thinking about, especially in the wake of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Speaking in a recent interview with GamesRadar, when asked about the possubility of the MMORPG releasing for consoles, Holly Longdale, vice president and executive producer of World of Warcraft, said that Blizzard “talks about it all the time”, and that, from a technical and logistical point-of-view, the company is “pretty well positioned” to make that happen. She added, “For a console audience, the approachability is likely going to be different.”

Longdale went on to say that currently Blizzard Entertainment is fully focused on the aforementioned Worldsoul Saga, before reiterating that a console release is definitely something the team talks about, especially now that Blizzard falls under the Xbox banner.

“Right now, we’re focused on the Worldsoul Saga. But if that comes up then we’ll reexamine things but, man, we’ve got enough to deal with right now,” she said. “We’ve got these three expansions and we are so excited about them. But, yeah, of course. It would be very insincere to say that we’re not, like… of course we’re talking about that. We are Microsoft now.”

World of Warcraft: The War Within is set to launch sometime in 2024. It will be followed by two more expansions in the Worldsoul Saga, namely World of Warcraft: Midnight and World of Warcraft: The Last Titan.

Meanwhile, for those who’d rather turn the clock back than dive into the future of the MMORPG, Blizzard recently also announced World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic, which is also due out sometime next year.
