Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 3 is coming to Steam next week after initially being exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC. To help prep players for the same, 2K Games has revealed that preloading will start at 12 PM PT on March 10th. The game unlock at 7 AM PT/10 AM ET on March 13th.
Crossplay between the two platforms and save transfer has also been detailed in a new FAQ. Following an update, there will be a PC cross-play screen that can either enable or disable the feature. Display name can be changed from the Options menu.
As for saves, you’ll have to move the files manually once the Steam version releases. It’s worth noting that you “run the risk of potentially losing your save files” as per 2K Games so keep some back-ups handy. In terms of Steam Achievements, those transferring save files from Epic Games to Steam won’t immediately receive them if they’ve already been earned.
“Certain Steam Achievements may still be earned on that character based on completing the requisite criteria again, but at this time, we can’t guarantee that Steam will register these Achievements consistently. All Steam Achievements can be earned with any new characters you create on Steam.”
It’s also worth noting that there won’t be cross-platform mail in-game at launch. This feature will become available in a future patch. Stay tuned for more details on Borderlands 3’s Steam launch in the coming days.
