Bungie Thinking Lord of the Rings-Sized Narrative for Destiny – Activision CEO

Eric Hirshberg says the developer is looking at "about a ten-year story".

Destiny (3)

We’ve often heard about Bungie focusing on its upcoming online shooter Destiny for ten years but it’s not simply a case of building a new franchise – the studio is actually looking at building a ten-year narrative on the scale of Lord of the Rings. Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said as much to Wired recently.

“I think a lot of franchises get built game-to-game, or month-to-month – the moment really determines the momentum of the franchise. Bungie aren’t just thinking about the content that goes on the first disc; they’re thinking about a ten-year story. They’re thinking about a Lord of the Rings-sized narrative. How do you build a lasting franchise? How do you design something that, from day one, is built to last?”

Destiny will be out on September 9th and Bungie says it’s not sure we’ll ever finish Destiny. It will be out on Xbox One, PS4, PS3 and Xbox 360.
