Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg, after stating that pre-order numbers for Call of Duty: Ghosts were down primarily because people were split between purchasing the current-gen and next-gen versions, recently talked about the game in an investor call, saying that it was a showcase for next-gen consoles.
“Call Of Duty: Ghosts is a new sub-brand developed by Infinity Ward. An all new world, story, characters and experiences all powered by a new next-gen engine.” The first part intrigued us – does that mean more COD: Ghosts games to come in the future?
He also stated that, “It’s worth mentioning that Ghosts preorders are over double those of Call of Duty: Black Ops, which is the last time we launched a new sub-brand for the franchise. It’s also worth mentioning that our other key engagement metrics from the number of people playing per month to the number of people playing daily to DLC sales, to video views, to community engagement are all significantly ahead of past years.”
Activision had “made substantial investments to make Ghosts a showcase for the next-gen consoles and also the best current-gen Call of Duty title ever.”
We’ll see if that comes to past when Call of Duty: Ghosts releases on November 5th for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC with next gen releases due shortly after.
