Leading up to Infinity Ward and Activision kicking off early access for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta later this month, the companies have released a new video highlighting player reaction to an early build of the Kill Block mode. The video clocks in at almost 10 minutes in length, and shows off the events of Fanatics Fest where Kill Block was unveiled to players.

While the developers acknowledge that the mode is still far from being complete, with the playable build still being in alpha, they expressed immense pride and excitement about the player response to Kill Block.

“We’re excited that players get to finally test Kill Block. We’ve been at it for the last month or so just play testing the build to make sure it’s steady and stable and ready for the event,” said communications manager Guignard Isaac in the days leading up to Fanatic Fest. Explaining the concept behind the mode, the creative director for the multiplayer modes, Geoff Smith, spoke about how Kill Block represented the ultimate training situation for any player.

Along with giving fans their first experience with Kill Block, Fanatics Fest also turned out to be beneficial to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 development team, since the players were able to discover and report some bugs. Among these was one involving a smoke grenade and a DMR, which would result in players experiencing something akin to a flash bang whenever the DMR was shot while aiming at smoke.

The event itself also served as a way for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 fans to compete against each other, with the winner taking home a championship belt. The group of players included many famous people from across the sports and entertainment industries.

During a panel concluding the event, co-studio head for Infinity Ward and the franchise head for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Mark Grigsby, spoke about how the game revolves around its community. “The fans are what drive Call of Duty, and it’s constantly a familiarity that we bring to the table, but we also change it up and try to find those new ways to bring people in, new players, and keep it fresh.”

Details about the Kill Block mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 were unveiled back in May. At the time, it was described as a “live-fire training facility built for elite operators, which gives players a fresh gameplay experience with every new round.” Designed around the concept of modular parts, the mode can give players more than 500 different map configurations, each with their own different kinds of objectives.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is being developed for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Along with a single-player campaign that revolves around North Korea waging a massive war, the title will also include a host of multiplayer modes, with 12 core maps being available at launch. The shooter is slated for release on October 23rd, with those who pre-order getting advanced access to the upcoming beta.
