Yesterday was finally the grand unveiling for some games that will be on next generation consoles. There was quite a mix of titles, ranging from horror to sports to shooters. One of those games was Chorus, a single player game about a woman in her sentient spaceship in a quest for redemption. It definitely has a unique concept and look, and it seems it will be a pretty open title.

Eurogamer spoke to Johannes Kuhlmann, Head of Core Technologies at FishLabs, and he revealed that the game will have some open world elements, allowing you the opportunity to fly around in some open spaces to explore. The next generation consoles will allow for reduced loading due to the new, fancy SSDs the systems will have, with the hope to eliminate them completely. While Kuhlmann was talking about the Xbox Series X here, both it and the PS5 will have similar SSDs.

Chorus has a quite a few open world elements. You can freely roam around and explore different locations. We do load in stuff in the background. We do still have a few loading screens in place. I’m hoping with the SSD read speeds, we can either get rid of them or some of them completely, or we can at least minimise the time spent on loading screens.

“So while for us it’s not like changing the game completely, I feel it’s gonna improve how the game can be enjoyed and how much time the player at the end spends waiting until a new location can be explored. It’s gonna feel like you can roam more freely with faster loading times in this case.”

Chorus will launch in 2021 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC and Stadia.
