Concord is set to launch at a price of $40 for its standard edition, something that may very well put it at a disadvantage against other major multiplayer shooters that are available for free, but like its peers, Sony and Firewalk Studios’ upcoming hero shooter is also set to make use of in-game monetization and microtransactions. What form will they take exactly, though?

Speaking in an interview with VGCConcord’s director of IP Kim Kreines provided assurances that any and all monetization in the game will be related strictly to cosmetic items that will not impact gameplay, and reiterated that all future content additions – be that new modes, maps, characters, or more – will be entirely free for all players.

“We’re going to launch with our 16 characters, 12 maps, and 6 modes,” said Kreines. “That’s all included when you buy the game, and seasonally we’re providing new maps, new modes, and new characters, alongside their unfolding story.

“There are purely cosmetic pieces that you can choose to further customize the look of your character, that you can choose to purchase. Those do not affect gameplay. We believe so strongly that the full experience should be available to all of our players.”

Sony and Firewalk have also announced that Concord’s open beta will take place from July 18-21, with those who pre-order the game getting early access to the beta from July 12-14.

Concord launches on August 23 for PS5 and PC.
