Living Shards are a rare resource tied to critical progression in Control Resonant, specifically the upgrading of Dylan’s Aberrant weapon. With exactly 22 to be found scattered across the open world, you will need to prioritize the specific tasks that will grant them to you.

This Control Resonant guide lists the acquisition methods for all 22 Living Shards to be found in the game.

Quests

Eight Living Shards are granted by simply progressing the story, which is not nearly enough for you to ignore the other sources in the early game. The specific quests are:

  • Orientation quest completion
  • Welcome To Manhattan quest completion
  • Evacuation Procedures quest completion
  • Power Lines quest completion
  • Into The Sinkhole quest completion
  • Fight To The Core quest completion
  • Sever The Hedron Links quest completion
  • Recursions and Iterations quest completion

Faults

Fault traversal challenges are also another source of Living Shards, three to be precise:

  • The Incursion Fault
  • The Subway Fault
  • The Underpass Fault

Vendors

The Vendors have exactly 11 Living Shards for purchase, split across multiple locations, but at what might feel like an astronomical sum of 4,000 Source each. Ideally, you will hoard your funds and snatch these up as early as possible.

There is also the need to raise the Zone level in order to improve the Level of some of the Vendors, since their inventories are progression-locked, thus preventing you from simply snapping up their stock upon your initial visit.

The Vendors as well as the number of Living Shards they stock are:

  • x1 from Central
  • x2 from West Incursion Zone, one at Vendor Level 1 and another at Level 2
  • x2 from Downtown, one at Vendor Level 2 and another at Level 3
  • x2 from Ice Cream Truck, both at Level 2
  • x2 from The Park, one at Vendor Level 1 and another at Level 2
  • x2 from Underpass, one at Vendor Level 1 and another at Level 2

Those are the locations of all 22 Living Shards to be found in Control Resonant.
