CyberConnect2 is probably best known as the team that has worked behind the .hack series as well as for having released a number of video games based on the Naruto franchise. Most recently, the studio gained fame for being involved in the development with the Final Fantasy VII Remake, although their collaboration with the project has ended.
However, CyberConnect2 is now back with news of an original animation project that they will be working on, dubbed for now as “A5”. This information was revealed at Anitsuku 2017. This won’t be the first animation project that the studio has been involved with however, having released two .hack films in the past. This will however be their first completely original animation project, so it should be interesting to see how it turns out.
At least we know that “A5” stands for “Astonishing, Ambitious, Advanced, Amazing, Animation,” although that really doesn’t tell us what to expect. CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama said that the studio refuses to do “anything boring,” so perhaps that commitment will translate into their latest work as well.
