Cyberpunk 2077 Will Probably Have New Game Plus

It's not an official confirmation, but it seems pretty likely.

With Cyberpunk 2077 now less than a year away from launch, details about it are starting to come in thick and fast. But for those who put stock in replayabilty above all else, one vital question that remains unanswered is- will there be a New Game Plus option? Well, though developers CD Projekt RED still haven’t confirmed it officially, it’s starting to look very likely that it will.

Over on Reddit, a user has posted a screenshot of their conversation with Lead Quest Designer Paweł Sasko via direct messages on Twitter, in which they ask him if it’s possible to max out every stat and ability of your character in a single playthrough of the game. Sasko, in answering that question, may have inadvertently given away that there will be a New Game Plus mode in Cyberpunk 2077.

“Your question is about a gameplay part (character progression) that is something that we are still working on,” Sasko responded. “So it may change in time, as we are looking for the best formula for the game. Most likely, it won’t be possible to max out everything on one playthrough, as it would have little sense to have a game that is about replayability and choices, while in the same time allow the players to max out all the stats on the first run.”

That message doesn’t explicitly mention or confirm the presence of a New Game Plus option, but the mention of not being able to max out everything “on the first run” would imply that you can do so on subsequent runs, which means that you can take all your progress with a character’s progression into a new save as well. I guess it’s only a matter of time before CDPR confirms it.

Cyberpunk 2077 is out on April 16, 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Make sure to read our impressions about the game’s “breathtaking” behind-closed-doors E3 2019 demonstration.
