Earlier this morning, Namco Bandai Games released a new video, which gives us a more in depth, behind the scenes, look at the upcoming Dark Souls II.
There’s no two ways about it, this video is pure, unadulterated badass. In a promotional effort, Namco Bandai Games went to a master blacksmith and had him make the actual armor that the player’s character can wear in Dark Souls II.
From heating and hammering the steel, to shading the shield, to forging the sword, we get to briefly see every step of this, really ancient, process. And the blacksmith’s wife, conveniently enough, is a skilled artist and costume designer, so she helps out with the fabric and the coloring.
The complex process to craft a suit of armor is something that recent generations take entirely for granted. When we’re dealing with games set in medieval times, seeing a video like this that really shows the process that goes into the armor your character is wearing adds a whole new level of depth of appreciation and realism to the experience.
Well done, Namco Bandai.
