David Jaffe: ‘The Reality Is, I’m Not Loyal To Any Company, Because I Think That’s Asking For Trouble’

David Jaffe is well known for his two franchises: Twisted Metal and the one man army: Kratos. Both of the series have been Sony exclusives. In an interesting interview with CVG David Jaffe speaks about loyalty and his relationship with Sony.

“The reality is, I’m not loyal to any company, because I think that’s asking for trouble,” he reveals. “Have I had a great experience with Sony and am I loyal to the individuals that have helped me here who are just good and honest people? Absolutely, and I will always will be until they give me a reason not to – which in 20 years they never have.

“But I had a conversation with some of them a couple of months ago: ‘Hey, what’s coming after Twisted Metal?’ What struck me was how many more cooks are in the kitchen than there used to be; how many more people have to be pleased. That’s something true not just at Sony but anywhere within the big budget environment.

“When you’re spending that amount of a company’s money, you have to expect some oversight. But history will show on a company-by-company basis who had too much oversight, and when it ended up wringing the necks of the creatives. Some people will get the balance right – and some already aren’t.
