Tecmo Koei and Team Ninja have announced that the freemium version of Dead or Alive 5: Ultimate will be making its way to the United States and Europe as Dead or Alive 5: Core Fighters. The game ships with 4 playable characters with Kasumi, Ayane, Ryu Hayabusa and Hayate all playable, and allows players to access all the online and offline modes.

Of course, this doesn’t include Story Mode which must be purchased separately for $14.99, with additional fighters costing $3.99 each. Still, if you only want to stick to playing with friends (and even accessing current DLC) with your choice of characters to choose, it’s an extremely appealing offer.

Core Fighters will release on the PlayStation Store on September 3rd in the US and on September 9th in Europe. Though the game is currently heading to the PS3, Tecmo Koei asked fans to stay tuned for a possible Xbox 360 version in the near future.

The full commercial release for Dead or Alive 5: Ultimate is still set for a September 3rd release in North America for Xbox 360 and PS3.
