Dead Space Tops UK Physical Charts, but Sells Less Than Half as Much as The Callisto Protocol at Launch

Dead Space launched at a higher price and for fewer platforms, while also having limited stock. Forspoken also debuts in the top 10.

The Gfk has released its latest weekly charts for physical software sales in the UK (via GamesIndustry), and a couple of new major releases have debuted in the top 10. EA’s Dead Space remake takes the top spot, selling 80% of its copies on the PS5 and the rest on Xbox Series X. It has, however, managed to sell less than half as many physical copies at launch than fellow sci-fi survival horror title The Callisto Protocol did upon its release in December.

There are several caveats to that, however. For starters, Dead Space is retailing for a higher price, while it’s also available for fewer platforms than The Callisto Protocolwhich was a cross-gen release. The latter also launched during the Holiday window, when physical games sales typically tend to be higher. It should be interesting to see how Dead Space fares when digital sales data arrives later in the week. Steam sales charts would suggest that the game is doing well on that front.

Meanwhile, another new major release also debuted in the charts, with Forspoken coming in at No. 4, though it has reportedly got off to a “slow” start. Interestingly, PS5’s The Last of Us Part 1 and PS4’s The Last of Us Remastered both of which saw massive boosts in sales last week owing to the HBO show’s success – have once again seen an increase in sales, with the former seeing a 32% increase and coming in at No. 15, and the latter enjoying a 27% boost and taking the No. 31 spot.
