Death Stranding: Mads Mikkelsen’s In-Game Character Name Possibly Revealed

Hint: it's not "The Sorrow".

We know very, very little about Hideo Kojima’s upcoming Death Stranding. So it makes sense that fans latch on to the tiniest morsels of information available to them- often they dig those morsels out. We have another case of digging here, and it’s actually pretty good. We know Mads Mikkelsen will be playing a role in Death Stranding, but other than that, we know nothing about his character. However, it now looks like we may know his character’s name- John.

Reddit user Shashkuh recently dug this out of a video for the game. In one particular shot of the video, there were some file names with pictures attached to them on a computer screen, and besides those there is a character model of in-game Mads Mikkelsen. Zooming in on that screen, and one can see the path to in-game assets folder: \vasg\vasg\KJP\art\sheffieldJohn\04_neutral\geo\maya\export\eyes.

This kind of hints that Mads’ character will be named John. But what about the “sheffield” part? It turns out Mads Mikkelsen was captured via photogrammetry in Sheffield, so it’s most likely a reference to that. (thanks to Reddit user lNyxusl for pointing that out).

Might we all be reading a little too much into it? Possibly, so it’s best to take this with a grain of salt. But it’s still some potentially interesting info.
