Death Stranding Won’t Be A Horror Game, Won’t Pursue Dark Elements – Hideo Kojima

"I wanted to make something unique."

Death Stranding will not be a horror game, according to its creator Hideo Kojima, who also says that with the game, he and his development team at Kojima Productions did not aim to pursue darker tones for the game specifically.

This comes as news to almost all of us, since the trailers we’ve seen of the game so far all seem to be hinting at a very dark, very surreal horror experience. It now seems that that may not be entirely true. In a recently posted interview with Glixel, Hideo Kojima talks about how he wanted to make something “unique” with “a more artistic slant to it.”

“I don’t have a dark mindset in particular. Death Stranding is not a horror game. I just wanted to make something that looks very unique, something you haven’t seen before, something with a more artistic slant to it. I’m not pursuing a dark aspect to the game,” he said.

In the same interview, Kojima also talks about how he has more freedom to do what he feels like while working on Death Stranding, whereas when he was working at Konami, he was an executive of the company and had to take care of several things.
