Destiny 2 Dev: Lore Is Critical To The World, Expect More In The Future

Bungie to work on lore "in and out of the game".

Lore has always been one of Bungie’s strong suites. Even when they were working on Halo, they crammed the universe full of dense, intricate lore, that to this day is spawning even more stories. With Destiny, though their focus on narrative has been a far cry what what it was in the Halo days, their lore continues to be an emphasis- if not as much.

As per Bungie’s Christoper Barrett, the studio understands that lore is an integral part of the experience they’re developing, and as such, they’re going to continue working on it. After a fan tweeted a video to Barrett that talks about how Destiny’s lore can be improved, Barrett responded by saying that he had indeed seen the video previously, after which, in another tweet, he mentioned that “lore is critical to the world of Destiny“.

He then went on to say that in the immediate future, Bungie will continue to work on Destiny’s lore both in and out of the game, which probably means there’s going to be supplementary material such as comics and books to be released in the future. That’s definitely encouraging news, but I, for one, am hoping that emphasis on direct storytelling is much stronger in the franchise going forward- they took a step in the right direction with Destiny 2, at least in this regard, so let’s hope they continue to improve in this vein.
