It looks like Bungie’s attempt at rebooting Destiny 2 and breathing new life into it with the Forsaken expansion has paid off— in the wake of the expansion’s release earlier this week on Tuesday, population numbers for the game appear to have increased dramatically. Destiny Tracker is reporting that there were 1.3 million PvP Destiny 2 players yesterday, and 2.6 million PvE players.

There are multiple reasons to explain this success— as mentioned, Forsaken has a big part to play, with it being a thorough rethinking of Destiny 2, and bringing it to the level that many fans expected the game to be at when it launched last year. That, plus the game being a part of September’s PS Plus lineup, should have caused the population numbers to greatly swell.

So- so far, so good, Bungie. Now to see whether or not Destiny 2 has staying power from here on out. After all, it had a very good launch at first before things tapered off— may Forsaken fare better.
