Destiny The Taken King

Destiny’s The Taken King will be out tomorrow at 2 AM PST but the Taken, modified versions of existing race enemies with new powers, have already started appearing.

One YouTube user recorded a particular encounter (skip to 11:14) with the Taken while patrolling the Cosmodrome. The Patrol mission “Turn Out the Blight” offers a waypoint where Taken are spawning and you must kill them. Unfortunately, because Guardians can’t advance past level 34, they’re suitably underpowered (the current max Light level for players is 170 while the recommended Light level against Taken is 220, which enables the latter to KO you instantly).

The video also offers a look at some of the interesting variations on abilities the Taken possess. The Shadow Thrall can seemingly teleport around and its melee attack is now Solar instead of Arc. The Consumed Vandal can deploy a bubble shield like Defender Titans and uses an Arc Shrapnel Launcher. Needless to say, you’re going to need those new weapons and armour if you hope to stand a chance.
