Destiny The Taken King

In Game Informer’s recent cover story on Destiny’s upcoming The Taken King expansion, the developer revealed that old, year one legendary gear and weapons will not be eligible for ascension when year two kicks off.

This means that you won’t be able to bring weapons like Fatebringer to the new damage cap or hit the max Light level with old raid gear. However, Bungie will be adding a ton of new weapons and armour, effectively resetting gear progression for better items when player start The Taken King.

Creative director Luke Smith stated that, “I definitely feel like some of our players are ready to play with some new toys. And we’ve built a whole bunch of new toys. There are definitely some weapons that you are going to find better versions of – there’s going to be something that replaces that sniper rifle that you love.”

This isn’t to say year one gear will be obsolete immediately – it will apparently be essential for surviving the beginning portions of The Taken King. What are your thoughts on old legendaries being left behind? Let us know in the comments.
