While David Cage and the studio Quantic Dream are mired in controversy and allegations of toxic workplace environments and harassment situations, Le Monde, the prestigious French publication that first broke the story, has unearthed some more details about the studio, including some that might shed light on why Sony continues to work with the studio.
Chief among these is the detail that Heavy Rain sold 5.3 million copies, which is an incredibly good number. Admittedly those numbers include sales from the PS4 version as well, but it’s a really strong showing for a cinematic single player game.
It also appears that the actual development budget for the studio’s upcoming Detroit: Become Human is fairly modest compared to other AAA titles- according to Le Monde, the development budget is about $35 million. While this doesn’t take into account the marketing costs, it’s clear that the games don’t require as much to make, while bringing in healthy returns.
Detroit: Become Human is due to launch on the PS4 later this year.
