Recently, with the latest 1.0.8 patch for Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo 3, it was revealed that players had found a way to exploit the system to duplicate gold in the Auction House. This lead to some players amassing – no joke – hundreds of trillions of gold in a matter of hours.
The developer shut down the Auction House, promising to fix the bug rather than rolling back to a previous update and wiping out current progress of characters. Blizzard has also announced that the Auction House will currently remain offline for another 24 hours.
While the bug has been fixed, as Blizzard conducting audits on players who utilized the exploit. The developer will contine to post updates as to when the Auction House will be back online and fully functional. As for now, it appears we’ll need to wait and watch.
Certainly not what Blizzard had in mind when they introduced the Auction House system, which allows players to utilize virtual and real money to purchase items. But cest la vie.
