EA has a couple of things to say regarding Star Wars franchises after the recent deal between them and Disney. On Monday May 6th 2013, the publisher announced they have signed a multi-year deal with Disney to secure the rights to develop and publish “core” future Star Wars games.

According to the Deal EA will develop Star Wars titles for a “core gaming audience”, with games “spanning all interactive platforms and the most popular game genres”.

Meanwhile, these games will not be coming out in the current fiscal year, EA has stated today.

Here is what EA Labels president Frank Gibeau during an earnings call today had to say regarding the multi-year deal with Disney.

“Some of our most renowned and innovative creative teams are working on ideas in the Star Wars universe”.

“The new games may borrow from films, but will be entirely new stories and gameplay,” he added. “Powering it all will be our Frostbite 3 game engine.”

However, in the contract it stated that Disney will retain “certain rights” to develop new titles for the mobile, social, tablet and online game categories.

Gibeau clarified this earlier today:

“I do want to clarify one thing – we do have rights to make the games on all platforms; console, PC, mobile and tablet,” he added.

“For the products that we’re building, you can expect that you will see them across all of those major platforms, and we’re very excited about it. The Studios at DICE, Visceral and BioWare are really fired up, and we’re excited about this opportunity and how it fits into our overall portfolio.”

EA has a lot of things going on, including the new Disney multi-year deal. What do you think of all this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
