Dota 2 Ranked Matchmaking Will Require Your Phone Number Soon

Sorry, Smurfs.

Tired of Smurfs in your Dota 2 Ranked games? Valve has announced some counter-measures for the same. From May 4th onwards, all accounts will now required a registered phone number for Ranked Play.

If you don’t have a registered number with your account, then you won’t be able to play any Ranked matches. Furthermore, if the number is removed from your account, it will take three months before you can add this to a new account. It will still be possible to add a new number to your current account if you remove the previous one. Valve also noted that, “Online services that provide phone numbers are not allowed.”

Don’t worry though – in more positive news, Solo Queue will be returning, thus allowing players to have Ranked matches with other solo players alone. Check out Valve’s blog post on the same for more information.
