The most popular and highest rated Dragon Quest game of all time is Dragon Quest VII: Journey of the Cursed King. Players have long been waiting for Square Enix to remaster the classic PS2 JRPG, and now, the publisher has announced that that is exactly what it will be doing- Dragon Quest VIII will be launching on Nintendo’s 3DS in Japan on August 27, for 5,980 Yen.
Dragon Quest VIII will feature a brand new story scenario, two brand new characters – Garuda and Morrie – and StreetPass functionality. It will have more extensive voice work than the original game did, and an orchestral soundtrack, performed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, is being planned for the title.
Dragon Quest VIII is the latest in a long line of classic Dragon Quest games remastered for Nintendo handhelds. The first three games were remastered for Nintendo’s Gameboy Color, while IV, V, and VI were made available on Nintendo DS. All of these saw western releases; that said, Dragon Quest VII, which was remastered and released for the 3DS two years ago, never made it to the west. In that context, there is very little hope to suggest that Dragon Quest VIII will. Still, let’s hold on to the hope.
We’ll keep you posted.
