Blackdogs are a notorious nuisance in Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen due to their nigh impenetrable immunity field. Fortunately there are some methods you can deploy to crack open that shield as the situation demands.
This guide for Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen lists every way to beat Blackdogs by breaking through their defenses.
How To Break Blackdog Defense Aura
Holy damage is the key to breaking past the Blackdog defense aura. The Mage is naturally equipped with offensive Holy spells including Virtuous Bolt, Exalted Bolt, Empyrean, and High Empyrean, so use those as available for the initial strike
The Mage’s healing Anodyne sigil can work as a passive aura-breaker if you can lure Blackdog targets through its area-of-effect, in order to dissipate their defenses. Non-Mage vocations can try using the Emergent Vitality Grimoire which can invoke Anodyne, to achieve the same result.
Other Grimoires such as Effulgent Aurora, which invokes High Empyrean, allow non-Mage vocations to cast a more straightforward Holy damage dealing spell. These will come into your possession through Relic Appraisal.
Weapons that are Holy-infused are also a good alternative for other vocations, and will crack right through Blackdog auras and inflict some damage directly.
Note that the Blackdogs’ defense aura does regenerate given enough time, so be sure to wrap things up quickly by following up with your most withering offensive strikes.
That is everything there is to know about beating Blackdogs in Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen.
