When it comes to Super Smash Bros, the possibilities of the franchises it could end up representing are endless. We all have our dreams and hopes for characters we want to see crossing over into Nintendo’s mammoth franchise, and too often, the likes of Scorpion or Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat get brought up in discussions. And as it turns out, that’s something that Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat would love to see as well.
Speaking recently in an interview with ShackNews, Boon said that though he cannot speak for what Warner Bros. might want to do, he personally would love to see Mortal Kombat characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which, for him, would be “like being part of the gang.”
“For me personally, I can’t speak for all of Warner Bros or anything, that would be kind of like a stamp of approval,” said Boon. “It’d be like being part of the gang and all that stuff. I would love to see that.”
As one of the most popular fighting franchises, and having spawned some of the most beloved and iconic video game characters, Mortal Kombat is a series that would fit right at home in Smash. Besides, Nintendo’s crossover series isn’t the best when it comes to representation of western franchises, so maybe it could begin rectifying that with some Mortal Kombat love.
It might end up happening, for all we know. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is in line to receive 6 DLC characters over the coming months, so the possibilities are endless.
