Elden Ring Guide – All Key Items and Their Locations

Along with the various weapons, armor pieces and NPCs – to say nothing of all of the bosses – FromSoftware’s Elden Ring is chock-full of items. Some of these are regular consumables like arrows, meat and so on. Others are more important though – they’re Key Items that are either used in quests, opening up new areas, finding new Sorceries and Incantations, and unlocking new gameplay functions. Suffice to say, it’s worth going out of your way to find them all.

Let’s take a look at all of the Key Items on a region-by-region basis and how to find them. A certain item can be found in multiple locations so keep that in mind when exploring.

• Crafting Kit – Allows for crafting items in the main menu. Purchase from Merchant Kale in the Church of Elleh in Limgrave (located right past the Tree Sentinel in the very beginning).
• Telescope – As the name implies, allows for looking at things from a far distance. Purchase from Merchant Kale.
• Spectral Steed Whistle – Summons Torrent as your mount. Obtained from Melina after finding three Sites of Grace.
• Lantern – Can also illuminate surroundings but attaches to your waist, leaving a hand free. Purchased from Nomadic Merchant in Liurnia of the Lakes or from Isolated Merchant in a shack west of the Weeping Peninsula.
• Spirit Calling Bell – Upon receiving the Spectral Steed Whistle, return to the Church of Elleh. You’ll encounter Renna who will give you the Spirit Calling Bell for free. It can be used to summon spirits from ashen items.
• Memory Stone – Used to increase memory slots for spells. Purchasable from Twin Maiden Husks in the Roundtable Hold. Also found at the top of Oridys’s Rise in a chest; in a chest in the Converted Tower’s top floor; a chest at the peak of Testu’s Rise in Liurnia of the Lakes; a chest at the peak of the Converted Tower; from a chest at the top of Lenne’s Rise in east Caelid; in a chest at the peak of Seluvis’s Rise in the Three Sisters; and as drops from slaying the Red Wolf of Radagon (Raya Lucaria Academy) and Demi-Human Queen Maggie (Hermit Village, Mt. Gelmir).
• Tailoring Tools – Allows for altering the appearance of armor at Sites of Grace. Found in the Coastal Cave in Limgrave upon defeating the Demi-Human Chief.
• Sewing Needle – A sewing needle that belongs to Boc the Seamster. Defeat the Demi-Human Chief in the Coastal Cave to obtain it.
• Cracked Pot – Used for crafting cracked pot items. Found throughout the world.
• Talisman Pouch – Used to increase slots for equipping Talismans. Received from defeating either Margit, the Fell Omen in Stormhill or Morgott, the Omen King in Leyndell, and Godfrey, First Elden Lord in Leyndell. You can also receive one from Finger Reader Enia or from the Twin Maiden Husks after getting two Great Runes.
• Ritual Pot – Found scattered through the world. Can be used to craft ritual pot items.
• Perfume Bottle – Found throughout the world but also purchasable from the Hermit Merchant in the Hermit Merchant’s Shack. Used to craft perfume items.
• Stonesword Key – Can be used to break an Imp Statue’s seal (consumed in the process). Found in the world and sold by vendors like the Nomadic Merchant, Isolated Merchant and Patches.
• Imbued Sword Key – Unseals a sending gate but is consumed in the process. Found in fourth belfry of The Four Belfries; at Raya Lucaria Academy on the east of its roof on a corpse; in northease Sellia from a small building (light a brazier in the southwest part of a town in a tower to remove the barrier).
• Golden Tailoring Tools – Found in the Church of Vows in Liurnia. Can be used to alter Demigod armor at Sites of Grace.
• Irina’s Letter – Given by Irina in Limgrave near the Bridge of Sacrifice. It’s to be delivered to Castle Morne to the commander.
• Gold Sewing Needle – Found in the Church of Vows. Used to alter Demigod armor.
• Rusty Key – Unlocks the door in Stormveil Castle. After taking the south entrance, look to the left to find it.
• Iron Whetblade – In Stormveil Castle, look for the Many Armed Key Master but don’t fight them. Instead, take the south-west door in the hall until you reach a large armory. Use a Stonesword Key on the nearby Imp Statue and look inside for a corpse. Loot it to receive the Iron Whetblade which can bestow the Quality, Keen or Heavy affinity upgrade to weapons.
• Unalloyed Gold Needle – Found in Aeonia Swamp in eastern Caelid upon defeating Commander O’Neil. Can be mended by Sage Gowry and given to Millicent.
• Amber Starlight – Quest item found in Altus Plateau. Look for the south bridge that leads to Leyndell and travel north from there until you find a cave. The item will be there.
• Rya’s Necklace – Quest item that’s with Blackguard Big Boggart. First, speak to Rya in Liurnia of the Lakes – she’s just north of the Laskyar Ruins next to the telescope. You’ll then have to find Boggart – travel north-west of Rya’s location and look for the Boilprawn Shack. Either pay 1000 Runes or kill him to retrieve the necklace.
• Volcano Manor Invitation – Quest item that’s received after returning Rya’s Necklace. As the name states, it invites you to the Volcano Manor.
• Academy Glintsone Key – Used to open the sealed gates of the Academy. Two are required – the first is found south of Crystalline Woods Site of Grace in Liurnia of the Lakes, just behind Glintstone Dragon Smarag. The second is found in Raya Lucaria Academy. You’ll need to venture to the rooftops through the courtyard and then land on the chandelier in the Church of the Cuckoo. The corpse on it has the second key.
• Sewer-Gaol Key – Used to unlock the sewer-gaol door below Leyndell. Acquired from the Dung Eater in the Roundtable Hold after having one Seedbed Curse.
• Sellian Sealbreaker – First, locate Comet Azur from the Primeval Sorcerer Azur and speak to Sellen. Choose the option “I have a favor to ask” and she’ll give you the Sellian Sealbreaker. This can be used to free Master Lusat in Sellia Hideaway.
• Cursemark of Death – Quest item located on a body in Divine Tower of Liurnia on the top floor.
• Drawing-Room Key – Unlocks the Volcano Manor’s drawing room. Obtained after pledging to Tanith in the Volcano Manor. Can also be obtained if you kill Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy without pledging. Travel to where Tanith usually sits in the Manor – she’ll be gone but the key will be near her seat.
• Serpent’s Amnion – Quest item that’s obtained after defeating the Godskin Apostle in Volcano Manor. Travel through a secret passage that leads to the cathedral to find it.
• Dancer’s Castanets – After killing Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, speak to Patches in Volcano Manor. You’ll then have to travel to The Shaded Castle in Altus Plateau. To find it, travel north from Altus Tunnel. Patches will be present in the room just before the boss fight.
• Tonic of Forgetfulness – Quest item received from Tanith. Give the Serpent’s Amnion to Rya and travel to Volcano Manor to receive it.
• Amber Draught – Quest item that’s given by Preceptor Seluvis after giving him the Amber Starlight.
• Alexander’s Innards – Quest item that’s earned by defeating Iron Fist Alexander in Crumbling Farum Azula. Can be given to Jar-Bairn in Jarburg (but after the village suffers an attack).
• Letter to Bernahl – Received from Knight Bernhal once you’ve completed two assassination quests for Volcano Manor. It essentially states that Vargram the Raging Wolf and Errant Sorcerer Wilhelm must be assassinated.
• Discarded Palace Key – After defeating the Baleful Shadow, Miniature Ranni will give you this.
• Chrysalids’ Memento – Near the Many Armed Key Master boss in Stormveil Castle, there’s a room with a pile of corpses. The Chrysalids’ Memento is found there and serves as a quest item.
• Shabriri Grape – This quest item can be found in several locations. The first is Stormveil Castle in Godrick’s throne room near a spirit NPC. The second is in the Purified Ruins on the lower level – roll through the planks or attack them to access it. The third is dropped by Edgar the Revenger, encountered at the Revenger’s Shack in west Liurnia.
• Beast Eye – Received from Gurranq, Beast Clergyman and used for detecting Deathroot. Give these to Beast Clergyman for rewards.
• Black Knifeprint – Quest item that drops from the Black Knife Assassin in the Black Knife Catacombs.
• Fingerprint Grape – Quest item that drops from Festering Fingerprint Vyke.
• Seluvis’s Potion – As part of a quest, Ranni the Witch tells you to speak to Seluvis at Seluvis’s Rise. He’ll give this potion in return.
• Valkyrie’s Prosthesis – Quest item obtained north-west part of The Shaded Castle. Look for a Cleanrot Knight guarding a room. Defeat it and loot the chest to receive the item.
• Weathered Dagger – Quest item bestowed by Fia in the Roundtable Hold after reaching Altus Plateau.
• Seluvis’s Introduction – Quest item given by Preceptor Seluvis at Seluvis’s Rise.
• Sellen’s Primal Glintstone – Quest item located beneath the Witchbane Ruins.
• Rold Medallion – Upon defeating Morgott, the Omen King, speak to Melina at the Site of Grace. She’ll give you this item, which is used to activate the Grand Lift of Rold that connects Leyndell, Royal Capital and the Mountaintops of the Giants.
• Sancrified Whetblade – Travel to the Fortified Manor in Leyndell, Royal Capital. Enter inside by walking on the wing that’s near the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace. Look for the front doors and while facing them, go left, then right – you’ll see some dogs which means it’s the right direction. After going past them, you’ll see a structure on the right. Climb up it until you see a door. Go through and you’ll see a corpse near an anvil. Loot it to receive the Sancrified Whetblade which grants a Lightning or Sacred affinity upgrade to your weapon.
• Mirage Riddle – Located in Altus Plateau outside of a sealed church on an Imp Statue. It indicates the location of three signs which can unlock the door to the Mirage Tower.
• Miniature Ranni – Quest item found in Ainsel River Main. Look for a stone coffin that’s been left open in the water.
• The Stormhawk King – Quest item obtained when returning to the Chapel of Anticipation. Venture to the southern wing and look for a corpse on the roof for the item.
• Dark Moon Ring – Quest item located next to Raya Lucaria Grand Library Site of Grace in a locked chest. You’ll need the Discarded Palace Key to unlock it.
• Dectus Medallion (Left) – One half of the medallion needed to use the Grand Lift of Dectus. Found in a chest in the tallest tower in Fort Haight.
• Dectus Medallion (Right) – One half of the medallion that operates the Grand Lift of Dectus. Located in the eastern tower of Fort Faroth, Dragonbarrow.
• Haligtree Secret Medallion (Left) – One half of the medallion that operates the Grand Lift of Rold. Located in Castle Sol in the northeast tower. You must defeat Commander Niall to access this part.
• Haligtree Secret Medallion (Right) Hit Albus, who is disguised as a pot past the Perfumer guarding the path up from the Village of the Albinaurics Site of Grace in the swamp caves west of Liurnia of the Lakes.
• Assassin’s Prayerbook – Located behind the second door guarded by an Imp Statue in the Roundtable Hold (requires two Swordstone Keys in addition to one for opening the previous door). Upon giving it to a “learned cleric” – like Brother Corhyn or Miriel, Pastor of Vows – you’ll be able to purchase Assassin’s Approach and Darkness.
• Fire Monks’ Prayerbook – Located in a Fire Monk outpost in Liurnia of the Lakes. When given to a “learned cleric”, it unlocks O, Flame! and Surge, O Flame! for purchasing.
• Dragon Cult Prayerbook – In Liurnia of the Lakes, go south from the Artist’s Shack. You’ll find a knight that’s wandering around. Kill it to receive to the Dragon Cult Prayerbook and give it to a “learned cleric” to purchase Lightning Spear, Honed Bolt, and Electrify Armament.
• Two Fingers Prayerbook – Found near the fireplace in Fortified Manor, Leyndell. Can be given to a “learned cleric” to unlock Lord’s Heal and Lord’s Aid for purchase.
• Ancient Dragon Prayerbook – You’ll find it in the main hall following the Crumbling Beast Grave Depths Farum Azula Site of Grace. When given to a learned cleric, you can unlock Ancient Dragons’ Lightning Spear and Ancient Dragons’ Lightning Strike to purchase.
• Conspectus Scroll – Venture to Raya Lucaria Academy and look for the Great Hall. Go left from the door and look for a room with a body – the scroll can be looted from it. Give this to a “learned sorcerer” like Sellen to unlock Glintstone Cometshard and Star Shower to purchase.
• Glintstone Whetblade – In Raya Lucaria Academy, look for a corpse that’s just hanging on a ledge from a window. Go left from the fountain in the courtyard and venture up the broken stairs until you see three sorcerers. Kill them, along with the sorcerer inside, to access the room and the ledge for this Whetblade. Its primary function is to provide the Magic or Cold affinity upgrade to a weapon.
• Royal House Scroll – From Agheel Lake South’s Site of Grace in Liurnia of the Lakes, travel south-east. Look for a cliff and go to the top – there will be a statue or sorts. Turn around and go forward until you find someone within a large structure. There will be a dead body next to him that has the scroll. Give this to a “learned sorcerer” to unlock Glintblade Phalanx and Carian Slicer.
• Academy Scroll – In Liurnia of the Lakes, look for a graveyard in the south. Check one of the graves to find the Academy Scroll. When given to a learned sorcerer, you’ll unlock and be able to purchase Great Glintstone Shard and Swift Glintstone Shard.
• Whetstone Knife – First, travel to the Gatefront Ruins. Check the southeast area for some stairs that lead underground. Enter the room and you’ll see a chest with the Whetstone Knife inside. This can be used to add new affinities and battle arts to your weapons.
• Red-Hot Whetblade – Found inside of Redmane Castle but you’ll need to defeat Starscourge Radahn first. Once that’s done, venture to the Site of Grace before the fog door. You’ll see three enemies with flamethrowers inside. Go right and you’ll see another flamethrower enemy. Run past them to the tower and avoid the Iron Maiden that attacks you. The Red-Hot Whetblade will be inside but there will also be another enemy. Take them out or juke them around and quickly take the whetblade (which grants Fire or Fire Art affinity upgrades to weapons).
• Black Whetblade – Head to the Night’s Sacred Ground in Nokron, Eternal City and look for a corpse in front of the altar. Loot it for the Black Whetblade. It can be used to grant Poison, Blood or Occult affinity upgrades to your weapons.
• Fingerslayer Blade – Quest item located in the Night’s Sacred Ground in Nokron, Eternal City. It’s found inside of a chest under the skeleton statue.
• Carian Inverted Statue – After giving Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade in Ranni’s Rise, she’ll give you this quest item in return.
