Elite: Dangerous is getting a new PvP mode- and to anyone who is a fan of the Metal Gear Solid series, the name will be something to sit up and take notice of. It’s called the CQC mode, and yes, it means exactly what it sounds like- the Close Quarters Combat mode.

Unfortunately, this is still not a hand to hand combat mode in the game. This is a space sim after all (and not an all encompassing one like Star Citizen is planning to be), so close quarters combat in this case just refers to some really intense ship on ship action in confined spaces.

You can check out the launch trailer for this mode below to get an idea of how the mode plays for yourself, as well as to get an understanding of how it is justified within context of the game’s universe (no pun intended) and lore.
