There are a lot of big names that drive the gaming industry. Probably the big three that many think of right off the bat are the three platform holders: Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. There’s also Valve, which via Steam has become something of a de facto platform holder for PC. But one name you may not have thought of until somewhat recently is Epic Games. While they’ve been a big name for years, they are probably bigger now than you think.

As reported via GamesIndustry, Epic Games is now estimated to be valued at $17.3 billion dollars (in USD). Just to give you an idea of how quickly this growth has come, just two years ago the company was estimated right at $8 billion, meaning they’ve doubled that worth. The big culprit, obviously, is the massive success of Fortnite, which has become one of the biggest and most played games in the world.

Of course, there’s also the Unreal Engine, of which the fifth iteration has already created quite the buzz for a variety of reasons. While the company has been a staple of the industry since at least the time the Unreal Engine took off years ago, it seems they are on an entirely different level at this point.
