Ubisoft has released a new short film for their upcoming downloadable first person shooter Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Intended as a wildly different off-shoot from the original, where you play as Rex Power Colt and work to stop a rogue cyborg army.

The live-action short film titled “The Cyber War” follows Commander Bolt Lightning and his comrades as they fight off a cyber virus. While not really representative of the gameplay, there are plenty of weapons in the short film that can be used in the actual game. There’s also the 80’s and 90’s film flourishes that make up the overall tone and appeal of the game.

Set in the year 2007 and described as “an 80s VHS vision of the future”, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon will be a standalone expansion. It will release on April 30th for North America and May 1st for Europe on PSN, while PC and Xbox Live will receive the game on May 1st.
