Ten years after it was first announced, after multiple delays, changes in direction, overhauls, and change of game directors, Final Fantasy 15, née Versus 13, is almost done. The game is almost ready for release. Square Enix have been discussing a 2016 release date for the title for a while now, and they have reaffirmed their commitment to launching the game this year.

“We will finally release FFXV this year, in 2016,” the game’s director, Hajime Tabata, said in a New Year’s note he sent out to fans. “In development, previous phases required wisdom and strength. However, moving forward the final phase will focus on effort and willpower.”

Final Fantasy 15 has been rumored to be getting a Summer release date- Square Enix has explored the possibility of launching the game head to head against Persona 5, at the very least. They have also previously mentioned a desire to give the game a simultaneous worldwide release, so we will probably see it in the west around the same time as its launch in Japan.
