Final Fantasy 16 has been an unsurprising success for Square Enix, having been regaled with high praise from critics and audiences alike, and enjoyed initial sales to match with over three million units sold at launch. As smooth of a launch as the action RPG has had, however, it seems it is giving rise to some rather unusual problems for some of its players.
As reported by Push Square, it seems Final Fantasy 16 is causing number of PS5s to overheat and crash entirely. A number of users on social media platforms like Reddit and Twitter have reported that the problem seems to be arising during one particular scene in the game, and only when the game is running on Graphics Mode, which prioritizes higher resolution with a 30 FPS cap.
A common thread across a number of these reports is there being little to no dust buildup in the consoles that are crashing, and the machines being kept in well-ventilated places, further suggesting that the issue might be with the game rather than with the hardware.
Square Enix has yet to acknowledge the issue or provide a workaround for it, so until such that happens, it might be best to err on the side of caution and play the game exclusively on Performance Mode.
