Final Fantasy 16 – Square Enix is “Thinking About Options” for DLC

"Hopefully, in the near future, we can have something that we can give to you all," says producer Naoki Yoshida.

Final Fantasy as a franchise is no stranger to direct sequels and expansions, but whether or not Final Fantasy 16 will abide by that tradition has been up in the air for some time. Its developers have insisted time and again that the game was written and crafted as a one-off self-sufficient story with defined, conclusive ending, but prior to launch, producer Naoki Yoshida also said that Square Enix would consider working on DLC for the action RPG if reception from players positive.

Reception has, of course, been widely positive (for the most part), while with over 3 million units sold at launch, it’s clear that Final Fantasy 16 has got off to a great start. With that in mind, it seems like DLC is now finally being considered.

Speaking in a recent interview with GamerBraves, when asked about potential DLC for Final Fantasy 16, producer Naoki Yoshida said that the development team is aware of the demand for more new content in the world of Valisthea, and that Square Enix is “thinking about options” and hopes to deliver some news “in the near future”.

“Going into Final Fantasy 16, the one thing we wanted to create was a full, complete story, something that you can enjoy from beginning to end 100% without any DLC, and I think we were able to do that,” Yoshida said. “But now we understand, we’re getting feedback from players that have played the game, and a lot of players want to see more, and we know that and understand that. For us, we’re taking that and then thinking about our options moving forward. So hopefully, in the near future, we can have something that we can give to you all.”

Currently, a PC version of Final Fantasy 16 is also in the works, so it should be interesting to see how long it takes for DLC to launch, especially considering that development either hasn’t started yet, or is, at most, still in thevery early stages.
