Fans have been keenly anticipating a new update for Final Fantasy 16 for quite some time now, and with producer Naoki Yoshida recently having said that a new trailer for the game would be dropping soon, many obviously assumed that that trailer would come at Sony’s State of Play presentation. That turned out to be accurate, with the PS5 RPG actually closing the show.
Eikons – or summons – are central to Final Fantasy 16’s world, story, and combat in more ways than one, and that is very much the theme in this new trailer as well, with the likes of Bahamut, Ifrit, Phoenix, Titan, and more shown off. Meanwhile, there’s also plenty of glimpses of the game’s combat, while more tidbits are also revealed about its story, world, and characters. Check out the trailer below.
Over on the PlayStation Blog, producer Naoki Yoshida and game director Hiroshi Takai have also confirmed that Final Fantasy 16 is in the final stages of its development.
“The team, under direction of Hiroshi Takai, has entered the final leg of development and is focusing on polish as they continue their march toward master up and launch,” writes Yoshida. “I, for one, would like to personally thank them for all the hard work they’ve put into the project.
“With the power of the PlayStation 5 behind us, we’re looking to take you on a seamless, story-driven, white-knuckle ride that will rival even the most thrilling roller-coaster. So buckle up, the wait is almost over!”
Meanwhile, Takai writes: “I’m happy to announce that the game is fully playable from start to finish; though, from optimization to brush-up, there is still a mountain of challenges to tackle as we head into our final push.
“Until then, please stay tuned. We’ll do our best to not keep you waiting too long before our next update!”
Final Fantasy 16 will launch in Summer 2023, exclusively for the PS5.
