Square Enix announced in September that it was working on two expansions for Final Fantasy 16, and while it’ll probably be a while before we’re able to play the new story content, it seems the action RPG is set to receive a new update in the near future regardless.
In a recent tweet, Square Enix revealed that it will be releasing an update for Final Fantasy 16 on December 8 at 2 PM JST / 6 AM CET / 12 AM EST, with changes focusing on its Arcade Mode, which lets players replay certain levels in score-attack form.
The update will “adjust the method by which battle performance scores are calculated” in the mode, while also adding a new leaderboard, which is where all scores will be recorded going forward. That, in turn, means scores will no longer be added to the older leaderboard once the update has released.
Square Enix also says it will be revealing more details about the update’s content at the time of its release, so there may be more to it than what the developer has alluded to in this message. Could we be in line for a trailer at The Game Awards on December 7?
Final Fantasy 16 is available on PS5, while a PC version is also in development. Read our review of the game through here.
