Final Fantasy 7 Remake “35th Anniversary Release Window” News Reports are False

They are based on a misunderstanding.

News started circulating recently, based on an off-handed remark by Square Enix’s Yoshinori Kitase, that Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s release date may be pushed as far out as the 35th anniversary of the game (which would be 2023). The actual remark by Kitase was that he wants the game out by then- as it turns out, it was just a joke that was misconstrued and taken out of context.

The site director of The Life Stream has taken to ResetEra to make the clarification- the original remark by Kitase was meant as a tongue in cheek joke, possibly a self aware nudge at Square Enix’s infamously protracted and long development cycles for their games. Unfortunately, given the, well, infamously long development cycles for their games, it seems that many people thought he was being serious.

The record should now, hopefully, be clear. As of right now, we don’t actually know when Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be releasing.
