Breathe easy.

Final Fantasy VII

While there was initially elation and joy at Square Enix’s announcement that the long awaited remake of Final Fantasy 7 was indeed real, and that it would be releasing some time soon, shortly afterwords, a bit of wariness began to creep in, thanks to Square Enix’s comments that seemed to imply that the gameplay and even the story of the game might see changes in the new version.

But even then, Square is going largely by the book with the remake, it seems like. For instance, they confirmed today that the remake will not be adding any new characters- anybody who was not in the other game, that is, will not be in the new one either. If you were afraid of insertions of characters from the extended Final Fantasy VII universe that followed in the wake of the success of the original game, for example, that won’t be happening. The original vision of the story will not be compromised to that degree.

“There won’t be new characters. As for the visual taste, we’re doing them to match today’s visuals and appear closer to reality,” director Tetsuya Nomura sain in an interview with Famitsu.

So, there you have it, folks. You can rest easy now.
