Final Fantasy Will Have A Big Year In 2018, Square Enix Executive Says

Please be excited.

Last year, after a ten year long wait, we finally got Final Fantasy 15; this year, we got Stormblood, the newest expansion for the long running Final Fantasy 14 MMO. We have also received multiple updates and expansions for Final Fantasy 15 itself. We also got a re-release of Final Fantasy 12. Meanwhile, we know that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a few years off.

Which is all to say, no one would have blamed you if you had assumed that next year would be a relatively quiet one for Square Enix’s flagship franchise; and yet, it sounds like that will not be the case. Speaking to Edamame ArcadeFinal Fantasy brand manager Shinji Hashimoto let drop a tease that “Final Fantasy [would] have a big year in 2018.”

Which… huh. What might Square have in mind? We know that the PC release of Final Fantasy 15 is inbound- but what else could they be referring to? Could Final Fantasy 16 actually be announced next year? Now that would be something worth looking forward to, wouldn’t it?
