While Epic Games is sitting at the top of the Battle Royale world with the newfound popularity that Fortnite is enjoying, that kind of success brings those who would use it to their own, malicious ends. The rumours circulating around that the Fortnite Android beta is sending out invites has been called out by the developers as being nothing more than a phishing scam.
First reported by Game Revolution, while the email looks legit enough until you put it under any scrutiny, such as noticing that the domain of the email isn’t from Epic Games, the real danger comes from several misleading Youtube videos showing off the email, which might lead one who is otherwise sceptical into clicking anyways.
Epic Games has been making sure to crack down on the spread of misinformation, hoping to prevent more people from having their personal information stolen due to their game. While this is an unfortunate example of bad actors using excitement for a game to their advantage, Epic Games is still planning to bring the game to Android devices in the future, with when being the only real question.
The reason I'm coming down on this so hard is that people ARE falling for this scam and are getting their information compromised because of things like this. It's important people have correct information and are not misled.
