The Ultimate Edition of the game was released on September 23, 2016, and the regular version was released a few days later on September 27, 2016. This is the third Forza Horizon and overall is the ninth installment in the long running Forza series.

Development

Forza Horizon 3 was officially announced in a new trailer on June 6, 2016 during Microsoft’s official E3 press conference. The announcement came after rumors of the newest addition in the Forza series started rumbling a few days ahead of E3. A demo of the game was released on September 11, 2016 and the preload for both the Xbox One and Windows PC was available on September 21 while the full game was released first on September 23 for people who had purchased a special edition of the game. The regular version of the game was released on September 27, 2016.

Shortly after the game was released, it was divulged that it would have features that Microsoft seems to be including in several of it’s newer games and additions to its titles. Forza Horizon 3 is what’s known as being “completely locked down”, which mean user created mods for the title are virtually impossible because it is built using an appx file format. The point of the format is to better fight off piracy of the game and its code.

In terms of appearance and graphical interface, the developers put a lot of time into making the game the prettiest in the Forza series. For the PC version of the game, a release of the requirements divulged it will have support for 60 frames per second and will also sport 4K resolution.

There are several options for users to tweak the look and feel of Forza Horizon 3 that will allow powerful PCs to get a truly immersive feel.

PC settings that can be turned off or improved include Dynamic Optimization, Dynamic Rendering Quality, Framerate Smoothing, Motion Blur, Anisotropic Filtering, Shadow Quality, Static Geometry Quality, MSAA, FXAA, Reflection Quality, Windshield Reflection Quality, Mirror Quality Motion Blur Quality and several other settings.

Story

2016 Aston Martin Vulcan in Forza Horizon 3

The story in Forza Horizon 3 unfolds in a number of races the players must try and win. There are different difficulties for each fo the “level bosses” that include features such as attempting to beat a car that is swinging from the underside of a helicopter. The entire story in this game takes place in Australia and travels from one landmark to another. One change in the way the story unfolds in Forza Horizon 3 is that this time around, the users take on the role of a boss of the Horizon Music festival rather than just an attendee.

As the role of the person who is running the entire festival, the player can now hire and fire racers as they see fit as part of the overall story mode. The point of hiring and firing drivers is to get racers who are going to bring in more attention and fame from fans of the event. If those drivers are not getting as much acclaim as you would like to see, in order to make the event that much more well attended, you can fire them and try your hand at getting someone who will do a better job.

Gameplay

Forza Horizon 3 blends some things that have made the series popular with some brand new features. The game brings back some very well loved moved called Return of the King and Infected. There is also quite a bit of customization in this iteration of the long-running series. The game takes place in Australia this year and that means there will be a way to drive and race your way around various landmarks in Australia.

Players will be racing through the tundra of the outback, as well as through the country’s biggest cities and through construction areas. The game also includes buggies so that you can take part in and enjoy racing around the country’s massive beaches as well as other off-road areas. In addition to the usual single player campaign, Forza Horizon 3 will also feature a cooperative multiplayer mode for up to four people. The campaign is playable in single player mode, but it can also be played using the cooperative multiplayer mode.

Reports indicate the map size of Forza Horizon 3 is the biggest of any game in the series and nearly twice as large as what was seen in Forza Horizon 2.

Customization in the game includes everything from the interior of the cars that are driven, to the music that is going to be playing in the background and in the cars. Because this is a Microsoft exclusive title the company has managed to offer up interoperability with Groove Music support. This allows users to create their own radio stations simply by plugging in your OneDrive account and putting MP3s in the account. Once the music is part of your OneDrive account you can stream it through the cloud and play it as though it was music that was suposed to be included in the game when it was released.

There will be a number of expansions offered in Forza Horizon 3 and the first one launched on October 4. This expansion pack brought new cars as well as new missions and was titled the Smoking Tire Car Pack. The pack is offered as part of the season pass or can be purchased for $7. The second pack is slated to launch in early 2017 and the rest of the “season” after that.
