FromSoftware Has No Plans “at This Point” for Elden Ring 2 or Another Expansion

"Even if it's not the complete end of the story, I think this DLC will be a big break," says director Hidetaka Miyazaki.

As one of the best-reviewed games of all time and with more than 23 million copies shipped worldwideElden Ring has been an enormous success for developer FromSoftware, which means it’s only natural to assume that the studio isn’t going to be done with this IP anytime soon in the near future. However, according to FromSoftware boss and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki, currently, there are no plans in place for a second expansion following the June release of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, nor for a full-fledged sequel.

Speaking in a recent interview with IGN Japan, when asked about the future of the Elden Ring property, Miyazaki said that though he doesn’t view Shadow of the Erdtree as the end of Elden Ring, it’s still going to be a “big break”, which means we’ll be waiting a while to see what’s next for the series.

“I’m not going to say, ‘This is the end of it,'” he said. “This is because I don’t think we need to destroy the possibilities of the future and the good ideas that may be born in the future. However, at this point, there is no additional DLC or Elden Ring 2 in mind. Even if it’s not the complete end of the story, I think this DLC will be a big break.”

Of course, Shadow of the Erdtree itself is looking like it’s going to be a massive experience, so Elden Ring fans have quite a lot to look forward to. FromSoftware is touting it as its biggest expansion to date, and it’s confirmed to feature a new map that will be larger than the base game’s Limgrave area, and more than 10 new boss fights.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree launches on June 21 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will cost $39.99.
