11 bit studios has unveiled its 2027-bound Frostpunk title, and surprisingly, it’s a remake of the original. Developed on Unreal Engine 5, Frostpunk 1886 offers a new Progress Path and mod support. However, it’s also adding on to the original experience.
In a new Steam post, the developer confirmed it would implement “tons of new content” alongside new mechanics, events, buildings and technologies, offering “new ways to shape your society.” Players can also expect DLC to “expand upon the world.”
While it’s a long way from release, 11 bit studios said it would reveal more information in the latter half of 2025, including the first gameplay and behind-the-scenes content. Interestingly, this includes the title, perhaps indicating that Frostpunk 1886 isn’t the final name. Time will tell, so stay tuned.
Frostpunk launched in 2018 for PC before heading to Xbox One and PS4 in 2019. Set in a post-apocalyptic world marred by the Great Freeze, players establish a new city in the light of the Heat Generator Tower to survive.
It received a sequel, Frostpunk 2, last year for PC. Check out our review and stay tuned for the console release this Summer for Xbox Series X/S and PS5.
