In the back alleys and board rooms of the gaming industry, all kinds of discussions happen constantly. Between all that something special grows from a brief pitch, there’s just as many that go nowhere. In a recent interview with Valve News Network (check it out here), Grey Newell, the son of Gabe Newell and heir to the Steam throne, recalled a time when the two visited Japan and his father had a meeting with Nintendo.
Grey didn’t outline the project beyond it being something super casual and regarding the original Wii. It ended up falling through and Grey wouldn’t elaborate any further. Apparently he did get to play Super Mario Galaxy with Miyamoto. What a lucky guy.
“My dad was talking to him (referring to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata or Miyamoto) about some joint project. I think it was about the original Wii that ended up not happening. This was like probably seven years ago. It was super casual,” Grey stated.
Unfortunately this is likely a project that will remain buried, the details remain lost to time forever. But just think, there’s a timeline out there where we got hats in Super Smash Bros Brawl.
